LAW – An Honourable Career
From writers to politicians to freedom fighters, lawyers have donned many hats. The legal profession in India has undergone a strategic and substantial change over the last few decades. Now-a-days the law aspirants not only figure themselves in courts but mark the presence in various corporate houses, law agencies, law firms, litigation, administrative services and many more. Lawyers render valuable service through courts-civil or criminal, at all levels of judiciary, that is, Trial Court, High Court and Supreme Court.
What it is about: The role of a lawyer in today’s era has completely evolved. The demand for savvy law school graduates, with the requisite skills to handle key positions at leading organisations across diverse sectors, has surged dramatically.
Course Details: One can either pursue a three-year law course (LLB) or a five-year course leading to a B.A.; LLB (Hons) degree. Admission to LLB is generally based on percentage of marks scored at graduation level. In addition to LLB degree, many universities and institutes also offer other diploma courses in several disciplines of law.
Eligibility: A candidate can get admission for 5 years’ BA LLB at various National Law
Schools soon after completing the senior secondary exam. The eligibility for the 3-year LLB course is a graduate degree in Any discipline.

Legal profession in India is governed by ‘The Advocates Act, 1961’. Persons enrolled as advocates with any Bar Council are entitled to practice the Profession of Law throughout the country. No person can be enrolled with more than one Bar Council.
Lawyers had a significant impact on the destiny of this nation. The present is not as glorious as past but it is not bleak either. The social acceptability is there, so is the wealth, honour and recognition provided you excel in your work. The degree of competition that prevails in the profession is very high.
