Developing Friendships to Upgrade Yourself

Whether you are a parent or a student, this article is for both. It may sound easy, but it can be a big task for many to build a good social circle. Everyone looks up to their peers for validating their thoughts and actions. For anyone, appreciation is satisfying. Friends are important part of every student’s life. They impact each other in many ways. That is why it becomes important to build a good social circle which uplifts them.
Firstly, as a parent one should build a safe base at home so that even if the kid feels lonely, they know that they have someone to open to. Guidance from parents for happy schooling is important. Communicate appropriately to keep them assured that they have someone who will listen to them. It is especially important for both parents and children to respect each other’s views and have confidence in them.
We never know what children go through while building up friendships. Irrespective of their gender. For some kids circle just develops. The rapport is built as they get along while some struggle to have someone to talk to during recess or discuss studies. Introverts specially prefer remaining quiet. It can be a real struggle.
Parents often advice “Do not focus on others. Do not talk to friends. You go to school for education just study and come back.” While the fact is children require friends. They seek to be involved. School companions are cornerstone of every student’s life.
So, what can you do to build an amicable circle of friendship and overall a positive attitude while upgrading your habits?
Here are some points

  1. Be friendly: Keep your nature friendly. Co-operate for group tasks. Talk with everyone. Ask open ended questions. If you are stuck in understanding any concept, muster up the courage to ask for help instead of keeping yourself in doubt. Do not hesitate if someone asks for help or any clarification. Once people understand your nature, they will also be friendly towards you.
TIP: Make sure you are not deviating your focus from studies amidst this or lowering your attentiveness in class. Otherwise you will mess up your life.
  2. Have self-confidence and self-esteem: Be strong. When in school, be ready to encounter all types of people. But never underestimate yourself. Remember you are good and lovable. Keep improving yourself. Your good nature deserves respect. Everyone will not accept you for who you are. Be ready to face rejections, break-ups in friendships. Let no one make you feel your opinions are useless or you are good for nothing
TIP: You are not born to please everyone.
  3. Be attentive: Take note of details discussed by the teachers. Understand the lessons being taught. There can be hundreds of conversations in a day make sure you do not miss out on important information of school/class/topic, concerning you. Be updated when it comes to your studies. Complete your homework or assignments on time. This will make you more involved in the classroom.
TIP: Your knowledge will boost your self-confidence.
  4. Be involved in discussions: Do not shy away from asking doubts to your teachers. Participate in classroom discussion positively. For instance, if teacher asks for any answers on the topic taught do not withhold yourself from answering when you know the answers. Stop if people will laugh at you in case of wrong answers.
TIP: Think before you speak. Do not answer or raise unnecessary questions without listening. Be attentive.
  5. Be participative: Take part in extra-curricular activities. Be it a group or solo activity. This is a break from study. You will get to interact with students from different grades and even from different schools. You will be known for your talent in the school. There are many competitions, such as singing, drama, painting, poster-making, monologue, handwriting and the list is endless. Define your area of interests. Do not jump in all these at a time and struggle.
TIP: If you have not taken part in any public speaking competition, you can begin with your school assembly to represent your class.
6: Develop Good habits: Be assured that you will be liked if you have something good in you to influence others. Good habits which you must inculcate are your hygiene, cleanliness neatness of your books and things, completing your homework on time, respecting, and obeying your teachers.
TIP: always remember, Good attracts good, bad attracts bad. Your aim is to be excellent.
  6. Do not go with flow: Understand what is right and what is wrong. When it comes to friendships you need not listen to every demand of your friends. If you feel it is not right, you can back off. Do not fear losing friends if you are right. Never compromise on your ideals.
TIP: You have the right to say no and your friend must respect that.
Lastly, you have to a make friends with someone that uplifts, supports you, encourages you and always brings out the best from you. Anything contrary to this is not going to add value to your life.
