ORGANIZING IS A SKILL

I remember my colleague named Rohit. He never missed a single deadline, always finished his work on time, and exactly knew what he is looking for. Even his interaction made us more productive. One day I question -Rohit, how do you manage the whole thing? He said- The skill which helped me is “organizing”

To perform our tasks, we need to get organized. A well-organized person will always perform tasks in an organized way, irrespective of how many jobs one must perform.

Organizing is not a talent but it is a skill. A skill which anyone can learn.

As per the studies conducted among employees. Lack of organizing skills causes real challenging problems. The unorganized person

  • Cannot locate papers and information
  • Is late and ill-prepared for the meeting.
  • Allows paperwork to increase.
  • Has no clear priorities.
  • Works in a mess.

As a result, ends up redoing his work, wasting time, missing deadlines, and delivering insufficient results. Even after putting in the time and effort required.

How does this organizing skill help?

  • Working in an organized environment will save time and improve your performance.
  • Good organization skills can lead to better decision-making, problem-solving, and concentration.
  • Declutter workplace helps to stay motivated, focused and reduce stress level.
  • Helps to be on time consistently since organization and punctuality goes hand-in-hand.
  • Spending a few minutes every day to get organized will increase productivity and make you happy.

The famous quote by Jim Rohn “Motivation is what gets you started, while habits are what keeps going.

When we realize we are disorganized, can become organized with practice and intentions. People are not born organized but they learn a skill that will help them to stay organized.

Ways to stay organized

  • Making use of a checklist will save your time, prevent pause of thought, and help in completing the tasks.
  • Follow a pattern to review the to do list. One search way is called the “LEAD” system.

L – List of activities to perform.

E -Estimate how long each task will take.

A – Allow time for things that’s will take longer than

         the time estimated.

D – Decide priorities-important component of time

         management.

  • Always batch your tasks ie important, urgent, or less important.
  • A planner with a diary is very useful. Plan activities daily, weekly, and monthly either using an electronic device or a book and a pen.
  • Avoid cherry picking, always have confidence in your plan. Resist being side-tracked that will not work better for you.
  • Surfing the internet is a major source of distraction. One thing leads to another, in such cases real discipline is required.

When we understand the reason, it can increase our ability to become more organized. The longer you wait to do something, the more difficult it will be to get it done. If you want your life to be less stressful and demanding, then get organized as soon as you can.
